FAQs on Tiles

Johnson Endura is brought to you by H & R Johnson (India) is the country`s largest manufacturer of Industrial, Pavement and Specialty tiles such as Cool Roof SRI tiles, MaxGrip ‘R-value’ tiles, Swimming pool tiles, Antistatic tiles, Antibacterial tiles, Tac Tiles, etc. Johnson Endura offers virtually all types of interior and exterior tiling solutions.
Johnson Endura is a vitrified tile manufactured using special non-ferrous clays, processed and fired at ultra-high temperatures of 1170-1200oc. This process causes the raw materials to fuse and form a Compact mass with low water absorption of less 0.5% resulting in a very strong body (flexural Strength 35N/MM2) with a very hard surface (Mohs'hardness of 7). The surface of the tile is either Matt or textured to provide excellent non-slip property.
Johnson Endura tiles are recommended when there is a need to achieve a perfect balance between aesthetics and Functionality. With its comprehensive exterior flooring solutions, the 10mm core Johnson Endura collection Is ideal for garden pathways, terraces, automobile workshops, educational institutions, warehouses Skyways, supermarkets and virtually any other outdoor area that encounters heavy traffic.
The 10mm thickness adds to the toughness and durability of the product. Furthermore, the "Super-Grip" series, a collection of unique textured surfaces, offers excellent non-slip property thus making it an ideal choice for use in public places with high traffic.
Johnson Endura Industrial tiles can withstand normal impact. They have been tested in automobiles Garage where various implements and equipment often keep falling with no significant damage to tiles. However, the tiles are not unbreakable and hence the extent of the damage if any would depend on the weight and shape and height of the fall of the falling object. We, therefore, recommend a gap of few mm between tiles of easy maintenance or replacement in the event of any damage.
Cement and cement concrete tiles tend to pit and form pot holes on usage. In epoxy floors, there is a tendency to develop micro-cracks which then tend to peel-off the floor. In both these cases, it is difficult to repair the floor. When Johnson Endura Industrial floors are installed with proper spacing and Grouting, they can be easily repaired by replacing the damaged tile.
Johnson Endura Industrial is a vitrified tile with very low water absorption. It is highly stained resistant as compared to most natural stones. The application of special over-spray helps seal any residual micro porosity and enhances the stain resistance of the tile.
Johnson Endura Industrial tiles are most suited for use over waterproofed terraces as they withstand all the Weathering effects roofs are exposed to and insulate against expansion and contraction of the Waterproofing layer below. Normally dust on the roof and movement of people leads to abrasion of the waterproofing layer. Johnson Endura tiles on a waterproofed roof help protect this surface. Care should be taken to test the waterproofing layer before tilling and tile joints should be sealed properly with epoxy or any other water-proof grouting material.
Johnson Endura Industrial tiles come in squares and rectangles. This makes it convenient to cut and create any designs or patterns as desired at the time of laying. Cement concrete tiles are cast into shapes and these cannot be cut.
Johnson Endura Industrial tiles are best fixed using Ardex Endura Tile fixing Adhesive and the gap between the tiles can be filled with Ardex Endura grouts. Ardex Endura Tile Fixing Adhesive and Grouts are available in India and are most compatible with Johnson Endura tiles.
Johnson Endura Industrial tiles are resistant to all alkalis and all acid (in high concentration), except HF or their derivatives.
Johnson Endura Industrial tiles are available in the following sizes and thicknesses : 200x100-12mm, 300x 300-12mm, 200x100-15mm, 204x204-15mm, 300x300-15mm and 200x100-20mm.
The safety of the swimmer and spectator is an important criterion for the swimming pool design. The pool surface is used when the feet are wet and the feet soles are soft after soaking in water. This condition necessitates the tiles to be specially designed to suit barefoot usage since the skin is soft and can get hurt easily.
Johnson Endura offers the best designed tiles for covering all areas of the swimming pool. Anti-skid property gives a good grip without hurting in dry and wet areas. Colored pool tiles that show depth and pool edge tiles with safety marking as per international color coding standard (FINA) specially designed fittings and accessories to cover all corners ensuring no sharp edges. The unique body and glaze composition to remain under water continuously.
Yes. These tiles are made as per the stringent standard laid by ASN, FINA (Federation International de Natation Amateur) & European Standard.
Static charge is a constant source of the problem in various industrial processes, in areas where highly sensitive electronic or computing equipment are in operation, and in many areas of Industries where inflammable chemicals or explosives are being used. In such areas sparks resulting from build-up of static charge can become a major fire hazards. The use of Johnson Endura Anti-static conductive and dissipative flooring tiles helps conduct static charge away into ground eliminating resultant hazards.
The Antistatic ceramic tiles (dissipative & conductive variety) are produced by mixing fine semi- conducting oxide powders into the ceramic glaze. Firing of the glaze to a high-temperature results in sintering and formation of a stable electrically conducting network of ions in solid solution. This electrically conducting network is fused on the tile, thus making it long lasting and durable.
Static electricity accumulates on the surface of any floor be its natural stones, ceramic tiles or other flooring material. This static electricity is accumulated due to the friction of any two surfaces like shoes and the floor. Johnson Endura Anti-static tiles are manufactured using a specially formulated conducting glaze that carries that static electricity charge from the surface of the tile to ground thus eliminating the fire hazard.
Recommended application areas for Johnson Endura Antistatic tiles are Server room, Computer Data Center rooms, PLC Panel rooms, PCB manufacturing units, Laboratories handling sensitive equipment or chemicals, Petrochemical industries, Shell making factories, Ordinance factory and other factories, Bulk Drug plants, Chemical and Fertilizer plants, etc.
Apart from Anti-static property Johnson Endura Anti-static tiles are highly abrasion resistant, have superior chemical durability, very high mechanical strength and are stain-proof.

Johnson Endura Antistatic tiles can be installed using conventional cement-sand mortar or using synthetic adhesives such as Ardex Endura and maintaining a 3-5 mm joint that is about 6-8 mm deep. Rake open the joints and fix good quality copper wire into the joints. The joints would then need to be sealed with conducting epoxy grout, to allow for a smooth discharge of any accumulated static charge.
Johnson Endura swimming pool tiles can be used to line water tanks in buildings. The water storage tank which is either underground or overhead can be lined in the inside with Johnson Endura tiles to keep the area clean. The surface will have fewer algae growth as the tiles are coated with an impervious glass surface, thus making it an ideal choice for water storage, including drinking water.
Johnson Endura Cool Roof SRl tiles, a range of unique tiles that, keep the harsh rays of the sun-off from your building and bounce them back into the atmosphere. The upshot of an ingenious Glazing Process, these tiles helps to keep room temperatures cool naturally and therefore helps reduce load on external cooling appliances like your air conditioner or cooler. Now, experience the cooler ambient temperature on your terrace or roof. This may also help to reduce electricity consumption, while you sit cosily and relax within the cool comforts of your home.
U.S Green building council’s LEED2.2 uses Solar Reflective Index (SRI) as a way to evaluate the Surface’s capacity to reflect solar heat. The roof of the building need to have a minimum SRI value of >78 to qualify the LEED accreditation. Johnson Endura Cool Roof SRI tiles have SRI value above 90 (White Colour).
Johnson Marbonite is now available in a large format of 120x60cm and 80x80cm. Conventional vitrified Tiles are typically 60x60cm. The large format makes the product look similar to Ceramic floor tile. Johnson Marbonite Elite collection is a fully homogenous product and far better than large marbles. It drastically reduces the number of monolithic pieces required to tile a given area by almost 44% and reduce the overall joint length by over 31%. The end result is a seamless floor with minimum joints that makes your living space look bigger and more spacious.
Johnson Marbonite Stain Free Slab is a fully homogenous product and is far more superior to ordinary ceramic floor tiles. Ordinary ceramic floor tiles are porous products and require to be glazed before use. Johnson Marbonite Stain Free, on the other hand, is an unglazed product. It is made up of a single compact body mass and is fully vitrified (water absorption near zero). This makes it stronger and more durable. The near-zero water absorption resulting from a high degree of compaction imparts more strength and reduces moisture and thermal expansions, thus facilitating joint-free applications. The use of all pure-white raw materials ensures that there are no contaminants or impurities, which may otherwise deteriorate the product. The high firing temperature (1200°C) ensures complete reaction between all raw materials to obtain a high level of vitrification.
Johnson Marbonite Stain Free tiles are brought to you by H & R Johnson (India). It is a member of Johnson Ceramics International, UK, one of the top five ceramic tile groups in the world. Johnson Ceramics International has a very strong global presence and its manufacturing plants are spread across the world.
Currently, Johnson Marbonite are available in size of 120x60cm; 80X80cm and 60x60cm.
The Johnson Marbonite GVS range is available in full polish & Lapato finishes. They are available in a wide variety of designs from the best known Italian marbles to elegant natural stones & wood.
Conventional vitrified tiles are unglazed and usually polished. The polished surface contains numerous micropores that easily pick up stains. GV Slabs, on the other hand, are glazed to seal the micropores & enhance their stain resistance.
The Lapato series are stain-proof are virtually maintenance-free and require no precaution. Even though the Polished series tiles are more stain-resistant when compared to conventional vitrified tiles, it is recommended that any stains or spills are cleaned up immediately, especially for the lighter shades and delicate whites.
Johnson Marbonite Elite Series are designed for a wide variety of applications. The Polished range is recommended for use in low traffic areas such as living rooms and bedroom floors. The Elite Series is suitable for residential and commercial applications such as living room, kitchen, bathroom, children's room, gymnasium, old age homes, schools, office, high traffic areas such as shopping malls, airports, etc.

Johnson Marbonite Elite Series are double charge vitrified tiles. After glazing and necessary decorations, the tile surface is filled with a specially formulated, extremely hard and transparent granule. The glazing process makes the tile impervious, while the hard granulation enables the Lapato polish. Hence, unlike ordinary vitrified tiles or natural stones that have surface pores that pick-up stains, Johnson Marbonite Lapato tiles are 100% stain-proof.

Normal Johnson Marbonite is easy to maintain and clean as long as any stubborn stains are cleaned-off immediately upon contact with the tile. Such stubborn stain if not cleaned immediately will penetrate the micropores present on the surface of the tile, making the stain permanent. Likewise, minute dust or dirt particles present in the ambient atmosphere, tend to settle into the micropores, leaving a permanent dirt stain on the tile. Johnson Marbonite Stain Free offers a solution to these problems by sealing-off the micropores that are the root cause of staining in vitrified tiles. Thus, with Johnson Marbonite Stain Free there is less danger of permanent staining, due to either stubborn stains or ambient dust particles.
In normal Johnson Marbonite, the micropores scatter incident light leading to a reduction in the amount of light being reflected. By sealing the micropores, the flatness of the surface of the tile is increased like never before. This increased flatness, drastically reduces light scattering, resulting in a significant increase in the amount of light reflected off the surface, thus imparting the Super Gloss feature to the slab.
No, there is no danger of Johnson Marbonite Stain Free Slabs attracting more scratches because of increased glossiness. The scratch hardness of the tile remains unchanged. Only the micropores present on the surface of the tiles have been closed, giving the tiles the Super Gloss feature.
Johnson Marbonite Stain Free tiles are suitable for use in residential, commercial places like offices, shopping malls, hospitals, airports etc.
First and foremost a small quantity of extra tiles must be purchased over and above those specified by the contractor, say at least a box more. This is to make up for shortfalls that may arise eventually. It is likely that tiles belonging to the same batch (and hence the same shade) may not be available at a later date. This may result in a compromised use of a different batch or shade of tiles that may disturb the overall homogeneity of the floor or wall. For the same reason, it is important to check at the time of purchase, the batch numbers and shade numbers on all the boxes for uniformity.
Micropores that open up during the manufacturing process are sealed using a break-through technology. These pores are sealed permanently and hence would impart significant stain resistance for the useful life of the tile. However, depending upon usage and maintenance, sand and grit particles from footwear etc may cause fresh micropores to open-up which could attract stains. Hence, in order to increase the useful life of Johnson Marbonite Stain Free tiles, it is recommended to take the same precautions that one would take with normal Johnson Marbonite tiles. Depending on the usage of the polished surface, the life of Johnson Marbonite Stain Free will be much more than that of the best Italian marble or granite.

The scratch resistance of Johnson Marbonite is much higher than ordinary ceramic floor tiles, cement mosaics, and natural stones such as Italian marble and granites. Its scratch resistance on the Mohs scale is around 6.
No. Johnson Marbonite tile is tough and long-lasting because it is manufactured using the finest raw materials. High-quality minerals are mixed with clay to form a unique body composition. 4600-ton presses compress and compact the powdered mass to form the slab. The tile is then fired in a 142 m roller hearth kiln at an ultra-high temperature of 1200ºC leading to a high degree of vitrification to make the product stronger. This process makes Johnson Marbonite tile harder than natural stones such as granite and marble. Its thickness does in no way reduce its strength and during normal use, it will never crack like a marble.
The entire collection of Johnson Marbonite tiles are recommended for heavy to moderate traffic areas. Its high hardness and breaking strength compared to marble and other ceramic floorings make it an ideal choice for high to moderate traffic applications. It is especially suited for high and moderate traffic areas such as hotel lobbies and airports from the point of durability and aesthetics. If maintained properly, that is, kept free of grit and sand, it should last the lifetime of your home.
